Kenneth SciclunaWriter & Director Kenneth studied film at the University of Malta, under Dr Saviour Catania. At age twenty-three Kenneth directed his first television show, and since then he has written, directed and produced numerous works, including short documentaries for RAI (the Italian state broadcaster) – Central Express: Malta, Caravaggio (2003), and for ARTE (the Franco-German cultural channel) – Shouting When the Planes Go By (2004, with Marie Briguglio). His debut film, Genesis (2001), was also Malta's first feature film to have been screened internationally. He also co-wrote and directed The Isle, Malta’s short film for the Zentropa/Arte/ZDF pan-European project called Visions of Europe (2004), which has been screened at more than forty festivals worldwide and broadcast on major European networks. Neville AttardEditor / Camera Operator Neville has worked in television since he was sixteen years of age and possesses a profound knowledge of how the medium works, both technically and conceptually. Having directed, filmed and edited various shows for local television stations, as well as commercials and award-winning music videos, Neville has an intimate connection with the camera and an unerring feel for dramatic timing. A commercial conceived, edited and filmed by Neville, Prego Olive Oil bagged Platinum at the 2010 AVA Awards. |

Neville BoneProducer Neville only came to audiovisual work in 2007, but since then he has produced sixty-five commercials and other demanding projects. An experienced manager and equally well-versed in the ways of the world, Neville has turned into a resourceful producer and production coordinator who manages to overcome seemingly insurmountable problems. A key member of the team, Plangent Rain is another feather in his cap. |

Andrew ChristieSound Designer A keen photographer, Andrew is also an experienced guitarist. He has lent his services to several local bands, and recently opened for Paradise Lost when they played at The Mediterranean Metal Gathering. At Lighthouse & Ashley Andrew created the soundtracks of scores of commercials and audio visual presentations, and on Plangent Rain Andrew had the unenviable task of building the soundtrack entirely from scratch, recording most of the spot-effects himself. Along with Carla Farrugia, Andrew composed the soundtrack for Arun Sharma’s undercover documentary Burma in Pieces. |

David PisaniDirector of Photography David was born in Malta in 1965 and took up photography at a very early age, experimenting with a rudimentary camera and a makeshift darkroom the seemingly endless possibilities of the photographic image. He continued to develop and refine his photographic skills as a self-taught practitioner drawing inspiration from classical masters of art and photography. He was particularly influenced by the work of Ansel Adams and Eugène Atget, the former for his technical virtuosity and the latter for his emotional and spiritual rendering of the streets and buildings of Paris, a city which in later years would become a pivotal place in David’s career. David’s photography is closely linked to his passion for architecture and design – a quest for beauty and order that are a trademark of his work. Specializing in fine art black and white silver printing he has pursued a relentless search for the deepest expression of empathy with his subject, pushing the limits of the dictum that photography should not reproduce what is visible but make visible the invisible. His work on Valletta spans a nineteen year period and was first exhibited in the Biennale of Photography in Paris (Mois de la Photo) in 1996 under the title La Valette et le Grand Port – Portrait d’une Capitale Maritime. Shortly after he began working on an extended documentation of Valletta entitled Vanishing Valletta, which was eventually published under the same name. In June 2000 thirty original prints from this series were entered in the permanent collections of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. David Pisani is also the author of Future City a photographic essay on the city of Dubai which was commissioned by Emirates Airlines for their corporate art collections. Plangent Rain is his second film with Kenneth Scicluna. |

Ruben ZahraComposer Ruben’s musical mosaic is composed from fragments of colliding musical cultures. Ruben studied composition and orchestration at the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome and Mills College in Oakland, California. While in Italy he studied film music with Ennio Morricone. Between September 2002 and May 2004 Ruben worked in Los Angeles as a soundtrack composer and music supervisor. As leader of the Nafra folk ensemble he is a major exponent of Maltese traditional music and has been invited to perform within major international festivals all over Europe as well as in Tunisia, India and Hong Kong.
