<td width="49%" valign="top"><p>The Malta Film Commission and the Culture and Audiovisual Unit within the Office of the Prime Minister are responsible for the administration of the Malta Film Fund.</p>
<p>The Fund aims to encourage the development and production of Maltese films and documentaries.</p>
<p>The Malta Film Fund has the following main objectives:</p>
<ol>
<li>To encourage the creation of quality Maltese audiovisual works;</li>
<li>To support Maltese filmmaking talent that demonstrates long-term potential;</li>
<li>To preserve and promote Maltese cultural and linguistic diversity through audiovisual works;</li>
<li>To develop the artistic scope, quality and dissemination of Maltese audiovisual works;</li>
<li>To strengthen films as a cultural product and Malta as a production location. </li>
</ol>
<p>Successful applicants may be awarded a grant to develop or produce a</p></td>

<p>A development grant may be awarded to individuals and/or independent audiovisual production companies for the development of a short film, full length feature film or documentary.</p>
<p>The development support is expected to encourage the artistic, financial and technical prospects of the project.</p>
<p>Support may be awarded to independent audiovisual production companies for the production of audiovisual works intended for screening in cinemas, television or through other media for commercial exploitation.</p>
<p>At present 10 projects are being developed and produced with the support of the Malta Film Fund. A new call for proposals is expected to be issued in April with a deadline in July.</p>
